This is me. I'm a 27 year old guy from Cape Town, South Africa, and don't have a clue what a carburetor is or what the difference between a socket and a sprocket is. Yes, I'm embarrassed.
I've owned one motorbike in my life, a Yamaha DT50 scrambler, which I had until I was 14. I loved that bike, but since selling it I've never ridden a motorbike. I'm terrified of road bikes.

In 2014 I discovered the cafe racer phenomenon and decided that I wanted to make one. It took almost a year to transpire, but in Dec 2014 Oscar (family friend) and I bought a 1981 BMW R65 and got going.
Oscar knows a hell of a lot about bikes, engines etc., so with a bit of luck we won't f*** this up.
I made this blog to document our project.
